The historic first Parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro on 14 September has been declared “generally peaceful,” but the violence surrounding the polls tells a deeper story. Violence erupted in various parts of the region, accompanied by incidents of vote-buying and electoral fraud, all of which collectively invite a more circumspect analysis of whether the “generally peaceful” elections were in fact free, fair, and credible.
