War and Identity

The year 2017 was a turning point in the magnitude of violent conflict in the Southern Philippines, amplified by the astonishing increase in conflict deaths due to the war in Marawi City and other places in Mindanao. Fewer incidents produced more deaths compared to previous years. Since 2013, our conflict monitoring system in the Philippines, Conflict Alert, has been tracking the incidence, actors, causes, manifestations, and costs of violent conflict in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and the Davao and Caraga regions. We break down our 2018 report War and Identity in this infographic pack to make it easier for everyone to understand conflict dynamics in the region and to encourage context-specific actions in building peace.
